The ISPRS SC Webinar Series

ISPRS WG III/3 (Active Microwave Remote Sensing) Webinar Series

Webinar Series

This webinar is the part of the webinar series organised by the ISPRS WG III/3 (Active Microwave Remote Sensing) with the technical support of the ISPRS Student Consortium (ISPRS SC). It is organised on the second Wednesday of every months.

Program Details:

Date: 10 September, 2025

Time: 12:00 - 13:00 (GMT+0)

Title: Analysis of Crop Dynamics Using SAR-Based Vegetation Monitoring

Speaker: Saygin Abdikan, Hacettepe University, Turkey

Moderator: Füsun Balik Sanli

Abstract: Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) data offer reliable solutions for vegetation monitoring and enhance agricultural decision-making. This webinar will present examples of how SAR data can be exploited to assess crop dynamics such as plant height, phenology, and yield estimation and mapping. We will explore advanced techniques for processing SAR data, extracting backscatter and polarimetric metrics, and applying machine learning models to improve crop monitoring accuracy.

Speaker's Bio: Dr. Saygin Abdikan is a researcher and lecturer in the Geomatics Engineering Department of Hacettepe University in Ankara/ Türkiye. Dr. Abdikan has experience in SAR interferometry, deformation monitoring, and crop monitoring using multi-frequency and multi-polarimetric SAR and optical data. Dr. Abdikan was the secretary of the ISPRS Commission III Working Group III/2 on Microwave Remote Sensing between 2016 and 2022. Since 2022 he has been supporting ISPRS Commission III Working Group III/3 Active Microwave Remote Sensing.
