The 2026 International Contest on Remote Sensing Data Intelligent Processing

Background of the Event

The International Contest on Remote Sensing Data Intelligent Processing (RSDIP) is a series of events jointly organized by the Information Science Department of National Nature Science Foundation of China (NSFC) and Wuhan University, including an international track and a domestic track. It aims to enhance capabilities in processing and modelling of multimode remote sensing data for geographic scene perception. In this contest, participants are encouraged to develop advanced algorithms that integrate photogrammetric computer vision, remote sensing and artificial intelligence technologies. The contest also aims to train the students to proficiently process multimode remote sensing data using the industrial software. The outcomes of the contest have the potential to address critical challenges in areas such as environment monitoring, marine and underwater ecological monitoring, robotic environmental sensing, and scene understanding.

The international track has been supported by ISPRS as the ISPRS co-sponsored event since 2022. The RSDIP 2023 attracted more than 160 teams from over 10 countries, and the award ceremony was held at the ISPRS TCIII Midterm Symposium in the Belém, Brazil, 2024. The RSDIP 2025 international tract was focus on individual tree delineation using point cloud data, while the domestic tract was on remote sensing data processing which attracted more than 600 teams with more than 1000 students, developers and researchers from over 300 universities, research institutes, and enterprises.

Building on previous experiences, we plan to integrate the international and domestic track in RSDIP 2026. The call for participation will open in January 2026 and the final outcomes, including the awards for winners, will be announced in July 2026. The international track of this edition will focus on fine-grained scene segmentation of forest and underwater coral reef images. While the domestic track will emphasize proficiency in software operation, data acquisition and modelling, as well as other remote sensing data processing tasks. Additional tracks will be made available to international participants in future editions of the contest.

We hope RSDIP 2026, including both the international track and domestic track of China, will continue receive support from ISPRS as ISPRS co-sponsored event.

International Track

• Fine-grained Forest Scene Segmentation
• Fine-grained Underwater Coral Reef Remote Sensing Images

Domestic Track of China

• Geographic scene data acquisition, processing and modelling using specified industrial software, including 4-5 subtrack with different tasks, e.g., Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) Remote Sensing Aerial Survey Skills Competition, Airborne LiDAR Remote Sensing Mapping Competition, Handheld SLAM Geographic Scene Perception Competition, Remote Sensing Image Intelligent Interpretation Competition, Remote Sensing Digital Education Innovation Competition)
• Remote sensing image intelligent processing including 2-3 sub-track with different tasks, e.g., Cloud-containing optics -SAR fusion land use classification and Small and weak target detection and tracking.
