ISPRS SC South Africa - Tshwane Student Chapter
ISPRS SC South Africa - Tshwane Student Chapter
The ISPRS SC South Africa – Tshwane Student Chapter supports the scientific growth and development of students in photogrammetry, remote sensing, and geospatial sciences, while contributing to the broader mission of the ISPRS Student Consortium.
Based in Pretoria, our chapter is the first of its kind in South Africa and serves as a hub for connecting students and young professionals across the country. We aim to create opportunities for networking, knowledge exchange, and collaborative research, ensuring that students gain exposure to both regional and global geospatial communities.
Our work is centered on advancing research and practical skills in Earth sciences, including environmental monitoring, urban development, and spatial data innovation. Through seminars, workshops, and collaborative events, we provide students with a platform to sharpen their technical expertise while engaging with international networks and interdisciplinary projects.
The chapter is guided by clear objectives:
-
Build a vibrant geospatial community by organizing networking events, seminars, and workshops.
-
Support professional growth through mentorship, career-building activities, and student-led research presentations.
-
Strengthen regional and global impact by promoting ISPRS SC initiatives and encouraging cross-sector collaboration in geoinformatics, environmental science, and mapping technologies.
We are deeply committed to inclusion and accessibility, ensuring hybrid participation, active outreach to underrepresented students from rural and TVET colleges, and promoting gender and multilingual representation.
Through these efforts, the Tshwane Student Chapter strives to empower the next generation of geospatial leaders and innovators, while strengthening South Africa’s role in the global ISPRS community.
