ISPRS SC Nepal – NKUGES Student Chapter
Founded in the year 2007, the Geomatics Engineering Society is the official departmental club of the Department of Geomatics Engineering at Kathmandu University. The society, since its inception, has been involved in the promotion of academic excellence and professional growth in the field of geospatial science through the organization of various technical events, seminars, workshops, and publication of the yearly Geospace magazine. In 2025, the society realized its great achievement in becoming an officially recognized ISPRS Student Consortium (ISPRS SC) Student Chapter, hereby opening new doors of international cooperation, knowledge exchange, and active involvement within the international geospatial community. The primary mission of the ISPRS SC Chapter is to create a new generation of scientists and professionals in geospatial science and engineering by enhancing their academic and professional skills. These comprise the dissemination of ISPRS activities, facilitation of research and publications, and arrangement of training workshops, seminars, and webinars on photogrammetry, remote sensing, GIS, UAVs, and other emerging technologies. Further, the chapter plans to facilitate ISPRS SC activities, such as summer schools, field excursions, and contribution to its official newsletter, SpeCtrum. Additionally, it seeks to create geospatial awareness through outreach activities such as map literacy and geo-literacy campaigns in academic institutions such as schools and colleges. Under the guidance of Assistant Professor Dr. Uma Shankar Pandey, the ISPRS SC Chapter of Kathmandu University is dedicated to serving as a center of innovation, collaboration, and student empowerment in the geospatial sciences.
